We pride ourselves on being a family-run business, but who exactly are we?
You might have seen our earlier post about why we chose to start our business in Milton Keynes. In it, we mentioned that the founder and owner of UK Emergency Glazing is John McCauley. So, who is he?
John has been many things to many people. He started his working life as an apprentice butcher, while also working as a carpet fitter alongside. When he and his family decided to move to Milton Keynes in 1976, he started working as a milkman, and as a result he got to know the new city very well indeed. John soon moved onto working for BT as a linesman before he decided to branch out on his own and start building houses.
As Milton Keynes grew, its needs changed and evolved. So John, always agile and proactive, decided that glazing was what the town needed. And that is where John has stayed. For more than 25 years he has been providing windows, doors and conservatories to homes and businesses in the area.
But he hasn’t done it alone. John’s wife Gill has been the other half of this story from the very beginning. With her own career in customer service and accounting, it was only when John started his building business that husband and wife joined forces professionally. Since then, Gill has provided the finance and accounting elements of UKEG, bringing years of experience and expertise to the table.
And that’s still not all. John’s son Steven has been part of the business since he was old enough to carry a piece of glass. From summers spent helping out as a boy, through to his current role as General Manager, Steven has grown up in UKEG. He’s now an integral part of the business, from taking measurements and arranging appointments, through to exciting plans for the future. UKEG is part of the McCauley history, and McCauleys will take it onto great new things.
Along the way there have been other glaziers who have been instrumental in the path that UKEG has taken. The latest in this line of highly trained professionals, is Jake. Although he’s not a McCauley by blood, he’s very much a part of the UKEG family. He brings a bright new take on the business with his youthful exuberance and fresh perspective.
Finally, we couldn’t possibly forget Bella and Bonnie, two essential members of the McCauley clan and the UKEG family. John and Gill’s Golden Doodles can usually be found snoozing in the office, although they might come and say hello in the shop if you’re friendly, and have a biscuit up your sleeve.
UK Emergency Glazing has been part of the Milton Keynes landscape for over two decades, thanks to John, Gill and now Steven. The McCauley mark had been imprinted on this town and it’s here to stay.
